LEVERAGE THE POWER OF CABINET-CENTRIC CONTROL

Every machine has unique requirements. Each places unique demands on the motion control framework you use. While many machine builders are now choosing
hybrid
or cabinet-free decentralized frameworks, a cabinet-centric centralized motion control framework can still provide a proven and efficient motion control platform if your production requirements demand it.

When cabinet-centric makes sense

A cabinet-centric framework works best when the machine design and target operating environments need to locate the power and performance in a single enclosure.

Here’s some essential criteria:


  • IP Rating: Most decentralized, machine-mountable servo technology is IP65 rated. If you’re working in plants with high particulates or heavy water jets, then cabinet-based motion control is likely the right choice.

  • External temperature: A temperature-controlled cabinet makes sense if your application involves a high operating temperature. Machine-mounted servo drives, converters and controllers may not be able to properly dissipate heat in this configuration.

  • Motor load sizing: If the load you’re moving requires a high-powered servo motor (maybe higher than 10 Nm), cabinet-based servo controllers and inverters can provide the most reliable power and performance.
